The BIG Sidewalk Sale Event at Petries!

Tomorrow, September 16, Petrie’s is putting up 500+ items for sale. While it is meant to be held outside, we’re preparing for the overcast and drizzle, so it may be partially moved into the playspace. Either way it will be well worth your time to come join the party.

Everytime we do an event like this, we get asked if this is signifies us closing our doors. We assure you, the answer is “No.” The reality of retail is that overstock happens. Throw in the usual explanations of supply chains, a boom in the gaming industry and holiday preparation, and the result is overstock… of which, we want to clear out. It’s time to spread some joy! By clearing some shelves we can dust them off and get the newest latest greatest titles that are coming out next!

Toys, puzzles, games, collectibles, miniatures… you name it and it’s likely on sale! We’ve put things on the sale priced anywhere from 20% all the way up to 70%. Plus all the Used Games and Books are ‘buy one get one free’ all day long!

There will be snacks, mystery boxes and of course… PRIZES! For every $25 you spend, you get a ticket added to the drawing. Verify your phone number in our loyalty program and your email for the newsletter (most likely, if you’re reading this, you already have), and you’ll get extra tickets added to the pot! We’ll be doing drawings all day long, so the earlier you come, the more likely you’ll win!

We’re hoping to see all of the Petrie’s fans there and we’re all excited for another day of community and celebration!

The Magic world was disrupted last week, not due to another amazing set release (although that isn’t to be overlooked), but due to snow storms in Texas. With much scrambling and a few apologies, we were forced to move our prerelease events to this weekend, when our card packs didn’t show in time. We’re still going through with our Magic the Gathering: Phyrexia All Will Be One prerelease tournaments… just a week late.

This means that you still have a chance to play in Sealed Format tournaments starting Friday night, Febrary 10 at 6PM, then again on Saturday morning at 11AM. And what has become the Petrie’s tradition, we’ll launch a 2-Headed Giant team game at 6PM Saturday night.

We’d love to see all of you there, and if you previously signed up for last week’s events, we transfered your name to this week’s sign up sheet to make sure you have a seat.

Innistrad Crimson Vow arrives today! Tonight we start the celebration with a draft of the new cards. This will be a $12 entry with one extra pack per player being added to the prize pool along with other promos. Plus we’re carrying over our prerelease price for all Crimson Vow products through the weekend! Saturday the 20th we have a second draft planned for 1PM and we’ll do it all over again!

Wizards of the Coast has done something unique with this latest releases. Essentially, this return to the world of Innistrad is a reminder of the old block system of releasing sets similar to one another. Starting with Midnight Hunt we saw a focus on the werewolves, and now with Crimson Vow we are back to the Vampires and those that oppose them. This will lead to a joint release early next year when both will be brought together in the much anticipated double-feature release, which also brings the art back to a silver screen Hollywood look. For monster fans, this is a great set dripping with theme.

Petrie’s currently has everything for Crimson Vow in stock so come sink your teeth into it before it flies away (sorry… couldn’t resist).

EVENT RECAP!

November 19 – Draft $12 entry – 6PM
November 20 – Draft $12 entry – 1PM

While we never fully closed down during the past year-and-a-half, there were times when it was just the showroom performing curbside delivery. For a few months the play space turned into a mail fulfillment center, then a rudimentary office, then there was that month where it was just two brothers playing Magic… or was it Pokémon? It’s all fading into memory at this point.

Like a hibernating creature emerging from a very long nap, life is slowly getting back to a semblance of normalcy and that includes gaming events at Petries. Some things have changed, but mostly it remains the same. Before we had to limit space there were some nights when traditionally we had 3 or 4 events happening simultaneously. Then occupancy caps and 6-foot rules came into play and in order to keep those events going we had to shuffle them around. Now, those new nights have become the tradition. X-Wing is a good example of this in that it has gone from Tuesday to Thursday. Which means that Board Game night on Thursdays is going to have to share some space. This is one example of our new normal.

Right now we are still trying to keep week nights to no more than 2 events at a time with a little more wiggle-room on Sundays. Saturdays has a few reoccurring events but for the most part is still our open day for larger one-time tournaments and special events.

Tuesday: Magic Commander and KeyForge
Wednesday: Dungeons & Dragons and Flesh & Blood
Thursday: Board Game Night and X-Wing Fighter
Friday: Magic FNM and a second slot for store tournaments (right now we’re looking at KeyForge and a few other titles using this time for a monthly big event).
Saturdays: Armada, D&D, Pathfinder, HeroClix, Battletech, WarHammer and a few other surprises that we have in the works are gearing up for once-a-month or bi-weekly events.
Sundays: Cardfight Vanguard, WarCry and soon-to-return Pokémon

Be patient with us as there’s a lot of work to do to get calendars back up-to-date, special events to plan, and general organization on the events at Petries that are already running. Watch the store calendar as it grows and follow us on Facebook to keep up with the latest updates.

As always, we encourage anyone that needs to practice caution to continue to do so. Wearing masks is at your discretion and encouraged for mixed large groups. If you don’t feel like you’re ready, we’ll see you when you do. There is no rush to return, but we want to be ready for you when you do.
